SAN DIEGO, CA Oct. 26, 2022<\/strong> \u2013 The American Nutrition Association (ANA) is proud to announce its commitment to award 100 nutrition training scholarships to licensed health care providers in rural and underserved areas.  Consistent with the Biden-Harris Administration\u2019s recently announced goal of ending hunger and reducing diet-related disease by 2030, the American Nutrition Association\u2019s allocation of these scholarships for their Personalized Nutrition Practitioner (PNP) Training and Certification will equip scholarship recipients with the skills and knowledge to apply personalized nutrition in practice to address diet-related diseases and conditions.<\/p>\n

This announcement follows the American Nutrition Association\u2019s participation at the historic White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health last month. Concurrent with the conference, the Biden Administration released a comprehensive national strategy<\/a> to end hunger and reduce diet-related disease by 2030, while reducing health disparities. The plan centers on five pillars:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1.     Improve food access and affordability.<\/li>\n
  2.     Integrate nutrition and health.<\/li>\n
  3.     Empower all consumers to make and have access to healthy choices.<\/li>\n
  4.     Support physical activity for all.<\/li>\n
  5.     Enhance nutrition and food security research.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    To support Pillar 2, integrating nutrition and health, the American Nutrition Association commits to awarding 100 Personalized Nutrition Practitioner training and certification program scholarships, 20 per year from 2023-2027, to licensed health care providers, particularly primary care providers practicing in communities of color, rural areas, and other underserved communities.<\/p>\n

    The ANA\u2019s Personalized Nutrition Practitioner Training Program and Certification is a concise, clinically focused education program designed to equip licensed healthcare practitioners with the skills and knowledge to apply personalized nutrition in practice. After completing the program, practitioners are able to:<\/p>\n

      \n
    •     Understand and apply the personalized nutrition care model in clinical practice to optimize health and support chronic disease prevention and management;  <\/li>\n
    •     Communicate effectively with patients about the role of nutrition in their health or disease; and<\/li>\n
    •     Collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team and identify patients and clients for referral to a personalized nutrition professional.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      The ANA is pleased to make this commitment to integrating nutrition and health and moving nutrition to the core of health care.<\/p>\n
